LEGO were making jetliners for a long time, but they never had a place to land. So far they had only released a few local airports for smaller airplanes.
As it happens, Fabuland had a domestic airport before LEGO finished building the Town’s international airport in 1985.
Even to today’s standards it is a big set. With 8 minifigs and four and a half baseplates with special runway prints.
The terminal building has it all:
Obviously the set comes with an airplane. It seats 4 passengers and a pilot. There is room for some suitcases, which are transported by the cute luggage cart.
There is no heliport, but the set does come with helicopter LL-BEL.
LEGO introduced a beautiful airport logo with this set. The airplanes and staff uniforms were quickly fitted with the brand new logo. And the airport received a stickered logo sign on the terminal building.
We saved the set from a LEGO haul. A lot of the white parts are discoloured, but we will try to replace them over time. We found all the printed parts and all but one sticker.
The inside information sign, unfortunately, had to be applied to an assembly of bricks and this wasn’t complete anymore. We have added the set to our private collection for now.
So far the set has been used to showcase two adventures of the Space Squad:
Space Squad finally arrive at the airport Will Benny make the flight?
